Tips To Beat The Burglars

Mon jan 11
We have had a call from a resident of West Ella Road to say there is a cold caller called Matthew from Nottingham making his way through the village. This should not be happening now. We have notified the Police however in future should any resident answer the door to a cold caller please call the Police direct who will act immediately if they are in a position to do so. Please point out the No Cold Calling signs to this person should you come across him.

Be Vigilant
It is a good idea at this time of the year to be checking your shed and garage locks and making sure that your outside lights work. Remember thieves like to hide in overgrown trees and shrubs and often watch you in your homes when the lights are on and the curtains are not drawn. It is a good idea to cut down anywhere where they can hide. The Police told us that if a thief can see you are both watching the tv in a certain room they can easily put a ladder to an upstairs window and get in. Keep them guessing as to your whereabouts in your home by drawing the curtains.

Ensure that WINDOWS and DOORS are secure when you are sitting or working in your garden, especially during the warmer weather.

The front of your property
should not be obscured by trees but your rear garden should be as secure as possible. There are leaflets on which plants to grow (prickly ones!) to deter intruders.

Ensure that all MOTOR VEHICLES and CARAVANS are secured and do not leave valuables in view.

Inform your neighbours when you are going away and ask them to keep a watch on your property.
